Devi Asmarani was first drawn to yoga to try to heal her chronic migraine and digestive problems. She was instantly hooked after her very first practice, and never turned back. Since then, she has studied a variety of yoga styles, but she considers Ashtanga Vinyasa her main practice. Her spiritual journey has led her to quit 13 years of journalism and her last job of eight years as Indonesia Correspondent for Singapore daily, The Straits Times, in 2008 to do freelance writing and teach yoga. She is now a regular columnist for The Jakarta Post and The Weekender, and writes articles, essays and works of fictions that have been published by other local and foreign publications. Devi has continued her yoga journey by studying with teachers who inspire her, all the way to India. She is drawn to all aspects of yoga practice – the physical, the mental and the intellectual. We’ll go through some sequences to open the hips, release tensions along the spine, strengthen the back and the legs, and improve your stamina to keep you healthy during the pregnancy and to prepare you for labor. The breathing practice is an excellent way to cultivate awareness to your breath and to strengthen your lungs, one of the most important tools in giving birth. Finally, you’ll also learn to allow your body and mind to surrender in ultimate relaxation. Yoga is the best gift for mothers to be and their babies.
